More Good Fishing on Tap
We had more good fishing this past weekend. In fact, the fishing got better as the weekend went along. Combine good fishing with good weather and we really had some fun on the water.
We started the weekend with an overnight charter fishing on Saturday. Conditions were good and the fishing was picking up for the entire fleet. Our group of 17 anglers caught 27 Yellowfin Tuna, 13 Dorado, 9 Yellowtail, and 3 Skipjack Tuna. It wasn't a big haul but everybody seemed to have a good time and a fishing trip always starts with a good time first and then catching fish. It's great when you can put the two together for a nice trip.
We headed back out Saturday night with another charter group of 17 anglers. Expectations were running high. Most boats reporting in that night had some good catches of fish so everybody was anxious for the action to start the next day. Although the fishing had been better on multiday trips the overnight boats were starting to get into some good action. Our group wasn't disappointed. Captain Mike put them on the fish early and stayed on them. We came back with LIMITS of Yellowfin Tuna, 2 Dorado, 1 Yellowtail, and a bunch of happy fisherman. It doesn't get much better than that.
Things should be set up well for our 1.5-day trip fishing this coming weekend. The fishing has remained good so far this week. Captain Mike took 29 anglers on the Ranger 85 fishing Monday and they caught limits of Yellowfin again. The wind is going to be a little stronger and the seas will be up just a bit but no worries. This should not affect the fishing. We're looking forward to the trip.
Our next two weekend trips are sold out but we have a couple 1.5-day midweek trips coming up. The first departs on Wednesday Sept 9th returning on Friday the 11th. Then we have another trip departing on Wednesday Sept 16th returning on the 18th. One of these trips would make for a nice long weekend. :-)

Great Weekend Fishing
There was some great fishing this past weekend. We had a charter group out for a 2-day trip and they could not have picked a better weekend to go. The weather was nice, the seas were down, and the fish were biting. By 2:30pm on the first day the group had boated 50+ Albacore and 10 Dorado. That left a lot of fishing still to go on day one.
This charter, the Barrier group, have been out with us for the past three years and they seem to manage picking just the right weekend to go. Not only were the fish biting but the quality of the fish were good. They brought back some nice size Tuna. In all the 15 anglers brought back 118 Albacore, 17 Dorado, 9 Yellowfin, and 15 Skipjack Tuna! Way to go guys. Glad you had such a good trip. And thanks for boosting up our fish count. That always looks good.
Upcoming 1.5-day Trip
We have a trip leaving Wednesday August 26th with just 7 anglers on it. We have committed to running this trip. If you want to get out with a light load and the fish biting give us a call at 619-997-9993 or go to our Open Party Schedule page and book online through H&M Landing.

25 - 30lb Albacore Within Overnight Range
Captain Frank on the Ranger 85 called in this morning at 10:00am with an on the water report. The fleet has found high grade Albacore, 25 - 30 pounds, at about 80 miles out of San Diego. This puts the fish within range of the overnight boats. Be at the fishing grounds at daybreak and have several hours of fishing time.
Frank also reports good weather out there. It is a little breezy but not bad and the seas are 4 to 7 feet. Nice fishing conditions when you are catching 25 pound Albacore.
On the Water Update
Capt Frank just called in on his satellite phone with an update on the fishing. Albacore are still biting at the very edge of the range for overnight boats. Captain Mike on the Coral Sea radioed in with a good catch. At 2:45pm his 15 anglers had 50 Albacore to 30 pounds and 10 Dorado. His charter group is on a 2-day trip and they have a lot of fishing time left in the day. The water is looking nice and the bite has been consistent throughout the day. Everyone on the boat is looking forward to the evening bite.

We came back in yesterday morning from a 1.5-day trip. Expectations were running high as the fishing over last weekend and the first part of this week had been excellent. Many boats were reporting a nice mixed bag of fish with Limits of Yellowfin Tuna part of the catch. With the new moon approaching a lot of anglers decided to come out and boats filled up fast.
Unfortunately for the second month in a row the fishing over the new moon failed to live up to expectations. Most anglers think this is the best time to fish but for July and August the bite has shut down over the new moon phase. Go figure that one out. It was especially disappointing because the weather was great.
Although we did not put big numbers of fish on the boat when compared to the rest of the fleet we definitely held our own. Our 17 anglers caught 27 Yellowfin, 7 Albacore, 2 Dorado, and 7 Skipjack Tuna. Not as good as we had hoped for considering the numbers that came in at the start of the week but we still had some nice fish in that mix.
Now that we are past the normally good moon phase that did not pan out we are hoping that fishing will pick back up again like it did in July. We are still seeing a large body of water holding fish and that is encouraging. We just could not get the bite going on our last trip.

07-27-2009This past weekend had more good fishing. Although the number of fish did decline from what our past trip saw we still had good fishing, especially when compared to some of the other boats in the fleet. We were on a 2-day trip and had very nice weather again. In fact, the weather has been great for a while with nice warm temperatures and mild seas. The water is warming up and we are starting to see more and more of the warm water species within range of 1.5 or 2-day trips.
We had just 13 anglers on our Ultra Limited Load trip and they combined for 89 Yellowtail, 21 Dorado, and 3 Bluefin. Not outstanding numbers but still very respectable. These were very healthy fish with some of the Yellowtail close to 25 pounds. The crew worked hard to put fish on the boat and we think all the anglers appreciated the effort that was put in.
As the water continues to warm it should bring more Dorado within range. Over the next couple weeks, if the water temps continue to go up, Yellowfin Tuna may start to move in a little sooner than during a normal year. We will take any Tuna, Dorado, or Yellowtail we can get. They are all fun to catch and they all taste great.
August is almost here. Many consider August to be the prime fishing month of the year. If you are still looking for a good charter date give us a call or check out our open party schedule to get a spot on one of our trips. You will be glad you did.
Tight lines...

07-24-2009 We came back to the docks this morning with a great catch. Our 17 anglers had limits of Yellowtail to 25 pounds, 26 Dorado, and a Bluefin. As we said in our last post Captain Mike decided to fish kelp paddies closer inshore rather than to chase the Tuna where the bite has been up and down. That decision turned out to be a great one. I am sure all the angles on board were happy with the way things turned.
The conditions out on the water were great, nice weather and calm seas. This should set up a great 2-day trip we have departing tonight. We have a 1.5-day trip scheduled to depart next Wednesday night. If you are interested in getting in on this action just give us a call at 619-997-9993. We would like to go fishing with you.

07-23-2009 The Coral Sea is out on a 1.5-day open party trip today. We just got in an early report that Captain Mike decided to stay closer inshore than what the Tuna trips of late have been running and the boat is having good success fishing kelp paddies. As of 2:30 pm they have 80 Yellowtail up to 25 pounds, 12 Dorado, and a Bluefin for 17 anglers. They have a lot of fishing time left before the sun goes down so this looks like it is going to be a very successful trip.

07-07-2009 We had another good weekend of fishing in and around the Channel Islands. The weather was nice, the seas were good, and everyone had a good time. We started the weekend fishing on Friday July 3rd with 20 anglers. We got into some great fishing for Rockfish again on this trip coming back with limits. We also caught 6 White Seabass, some Whitefish, and a nice Halibut.
We took the 4th off and went back out to fish on July 5th. The fishing was not quite as good on this trip but that is the way it can be out on the water. We have run so many good trips that once in a while there is an off day. I am sure our anglers were looking forward to a better trip. This trip was like all of ours, we try hard to put fish on the boat for our clients but it was just an off day. We still managed 8 White Seabass, 4 nice Halibut, some Rockfish and a few Barracuda. Our group still had a good time.
We plan on being at Channel Islands Sportfishing Center in Oxnard through mid July so come on out and enjoy some time on the water. There are trips scheduled for everyday through the 15th. You just can not beat a day spent fishing.
