07-07-2009 We had another good weekend of fishing in and around the Channel Islands. The weather was nice, the seas were good, and everyone had a good time. We started the weekend fishing on Friday July 3rd with 20 anglers. We got into some great fishing for Rockfish again on this trip coming back with limits. We also caught 6 White Seabass, some Whitefish, and a nice Halibut.
We took the 4th off and went back out to fish on July 5th. The fishing was not quite as good on this trip but that is the way it can be out on the water. We have run so many good trips that once in a while there is an off day. I am sure our anglers were looking forward to a better trip. This trip was like all of ours, we try hard to put fish on the boat for our clients but it was just an off day. We still managed 8 White Seabass, 4 nice Halibut, some Rockfish and a few Barracuda. Our group still had a good time.
We plan on being at Channel Islands Sportfishing Center in Oxnard through mid July so come on out and enjoy some time on the water. There are trips scheduled for everyday through the 15th. You just can not beat a day spent fishing.

07-02-2009
We have been having some great fishing since Rockfish season opened several months ago. In fact, this is some of the best fishing we have had in quite some time. The good thing about it is there just does not seem to be any end in sight for this bite. If you check out our Fish Counts page you will see we have been reeling in good numbers of fish. Remember, these are some of the finest eating fish in the ocean. Along with the Rockfish we have also had a few Sheephead, Whitefish, a few Lingcod, and some Barracuda in the middle of June.
We will be at Channels Islands Sportfishing Center at least through the middle of July. We have some overnight trips scheduled for this holiday weekend. These trips are priced at $145 and we will be taking 24 anglers. Now is the time to come out and get in on the bite. Take a day off this weekend to enjoy yourself out on the water and still have some fun with family and friends. We would love to take you fishing.
Give us a call at (805) 382-1612 for information and reservations. See you at the rail.

04-13-2009 Just a quick report. We have the boat hauled out right now. We have been out of the water for about a week and it will probably be another week before we get out of the boat yard and back to the business of fishing. We are redoing the majority of the bow of the boat. It is a lot of work but we have to keep up on the maintenance.
Once we are back in the water we will be ready to nail some more of those nice Rockfish out there and Lingcod too. We are also hoping for a good White Seabass season a little later this spring. Now that would be some fun.

04-02-2009 Lingcod season opened April 1st. Although we only brought back 2 Lingcod we had a nice mixed bag of fish with 50 Vermilion, 80 Rockfish, and 1 California Sheephead. All in all that's a nice load of fish for just 13 anglers. If you take into acount that the weather wasn't the best it turned out to be a good trip.
We have another trip departing Saturday night to fish all day on Sunday. Early indications are the weather is going to be nice for the weekend and we expect the fishing to remain good.
Come out and join us for a good time catching some great tasting fish.

03-30-2009 Limits Of Rockfish!!
Well it didn't take Captain Mike Pritchard long to find his way to limits of Rockfish for his latest trips. Nice fish too. In fact we've been catching a lot of limits of Rockfish over the past few weeks. If you didn't already know, the Rockfish we catch are some of the best eating ocean fish you can catch. With a 10 fish limit you can bring home a lot of fish and have a great time catching them.
We have a great relief Captain in Alex too. He and his crew have been doing an outstanding job this season. Their trips have been limiting out on Rockfish too along with a good number of Whitefish. All in all, the crews that have worked on the Coral Sea this year have done a great job of putting our customers on the fish. I'm sure this has something to do with some of the more seasoned Captains in the area sharing their knowledge of the fishing grounds. Hey, we're all in this together for two things: 1) To make sure our anglers have a great fishing trip and 2) To put some fish on the boat.
Lingcod season opens April 1st and we, along with a lot of anglers, are really looking forward to it. We have overnight trips scheduled on the Coral Sea and the Ranger 85 (our other boat) as well as 2-day trips on the Ranger 85. If you've been putting off a trip it's time to make your reservations and get your gear ready. Come on out and load up your freezer.
I know Captain Mike is really excited about the opportunity to take over the Coral Sea. You can bet that he's going to put all his effort into making your fishing trip the best possible.
We're going fishin'. We'll see you at the rail.

02-12-2009 We just posted our 2009 San Diego Tuna schedule last night. We're going to run several 1.5 day trips and four 2 day trips this year. Our 1.5 day trips will take 17 passengers and our 2 day trips are going to be limited to just 14 anglers.
If you've never fished on a smaller boat with less anglers it really is a different fishing experience. Everybody gets to know each other and everybody helps each other out. In a larger group it can get quite hectic at the rail but with a smaller group everybody learns the ropes and cooperates a little more during those hot bites.
We have a nice 1.5 day midweek schedule fishing on Thursdays and a few more fishing on Sundays. Our 2 day schedule leaves Friday nights to fish on Saturday and Sunday. We think we've priced these trips right to attract a good group of anglers to fish with.
Give our boat and schedule a look. You may find fishing on a trip like ours is right up your alley!
We can't wait for the season to start.

09-09-2008 Fishing was a little spotty over the weekend although there were some nice kelp paddies holding some good fish. There's a wide body of fish out there and we're still catching Tuna, Dorado, Yellowtail, and Skipjack. We managed to put some good fish on the boat on our last 2-day trip.
We just came back in last night from an overnight trip and fishing broke loose again. We had 45 Yellowfin, 50 Skipjack, an Albacore and a Dorado. Those are some big numbers for just 10 anglers. A lot of people turn up their nose at Skipjack but they can be good eating if prepared right. Cut out that dark line in the middle and you get some nice fillets. If you're into canning fish Skipjack are an excellent choice to can up and they stay good for a long time. Skipjack are also very good smoked. If you don't smoke your own fish, any kind of fish, you can turn them in to one of the vendors and have them smoked for you. My favorite smoked Tuna is Yellowfin followed by Skipjack and then Albacore. To me a fish with a little more oil in it comes out of the smoker better than a drier fish like Albacore. The only exception for me would be Bluefin which is a bit too oily but each to his/her own.
Looking forward we see some good fishing ahead. There's fish from about 40 miles all the way out to 90 miles. We're doing a lot of kelp paddy fishing. If you get lucky and hit the right paddy you can stay on it for a few hours and pick off some good fish. If not, you'll go from paddy to paddy knocking off a few fish at a time. Either way there's some good fishing out there. And right now there's not a lot of fisherman taking advantage of the fishing. There's very few boats getting out during the week so most of the trips are light giving you plenty of space on deck.
Is there any better way to enjoy yourself than to go fishing? We hope to see you at the rail!
