The late summer Albacore bite continues. In fact, this is the best September Albacore fishing in a long time. And, the quality of the fish is excellent. 20 -30 pound Albies are the norm.
Right now these fish are about 100 miles out, around the Cortez bank. That makes it hard for the over night boats to reach them but it's no problem for multi-day trips. Our other boat, the Ranger 85, came back to the dock this morning with 104 Albies for 25 guys. I'm sure there were several break-offs too. Now that's some good fishing.
We leave this Friday on a 2 day trip and we're confident we'll be into the fish for our 14 anglers. The next 2 day trip we have scheduled is for Sept 15-17 and we believe the good fishing conditions will remain. The trip price is $495 plus a $25 fuel surcharge. The price includes permits, meals, and even your snacks. If you want to get in on this action give us a call at
619-997-9993 to reserve your spot.

07-05-2007 Fishing this week has been outstanding. Most of the multi-day boats are coming back with LIMITS or near limits for their anglers. Good quality fish too. Lots of 20 - 25 pound fish with some down around 15 pounds and others closing in on 35 pounds. This is definitely the best fishing of the season. Weather and water conditions are excellent.
We've sat at the dock this week because we didn't have any charters and we couldn't go on-line for any open party trips. However our other boat, the Ranger 85, has been having some great fishing. LIMITS or near limits of Albacore on their 1.5 and 2 day trips this week. The Ranger is out on a 2.5 day trip now and it'll be interesting to see how many fish they come home.
Looking forqward to our charter trips this weekend and into next week the fishing should remain very good. There is a large body of Albacore out there that are biting well and the weather and seas are very fvorable. We expect these conditions to remain through the coming week.
Some of the fish are being caught on iron jigs but most are caught on live bait. Spool your reels with 25-30 pound fresh quality line. Bring some #1, #2, 1/0, 2/0, and 3/0 hooks. Flying lining the bait has been the ticket but bring along some small sinkers. It's a simple set-up to catch some quality fish.
Remember, our crew is there to make your trip the best sportfishing trip you've had.

07-02-2007 EXCELLENT ALBACORE FISHING!!
We returned to the dock Sunday morning from an awesome 1.5 day fishing trip. We had LIMITS of Albacore and 2 Yellowtail for 17 guys. Talk about some great fishing. I'm sure this trip will be one that the guys on board will be talking about for a long time to come. In fact, we've already received a couple e-mails about what a great time people had on the trip.
The weather out there was really nice. The seas were flattening out and we just couldn't ask for much better. This week should only get better as the days go by. All signs point to continued good fishing. This might turn out to be a "normal" year, with the Albacore kicking off for the Independence Day holiday. The last few years the Albacore have came in really early. Last year they were all but gone by this time so we think we're in for some good fishing ahead.
Unfortunately it looks like we are going to come off a great trip only to sit at the dock until Friday. We weren't able to pick up a charter for any mid week fishing and we can't go on-line for an open party trip unless all the other open party boats fill up. Damn, we'd like to get back out there and boat some more nice Albies. If you're able to get a small group together at short notice give us a call at (619) 997-9993. You really need to take advantage of this bite.
Here's to good fishing.

The summer offshore fishing is here. Although the season started out slow things are picking up. Historically this is the time of year that the Albacore numbers start improving and that has been the case this past week. The schools of Albacore and Yellowtail have been small so we've been doing a lot of searching. However, just about everyday there is one or two boats that are able to find that one good stop. The weather has been good and fishing conditions continue to improve.
Our 2 day open party trips are drawing a lot of interest and we still have some good charter dates available. Join us for some fun on the water.

Notice of Fuel Surcharge:
Because of the rise in fuel prices it has become necessary for us to put a fuel surcharge on all of our trips, charters and open party trips. We set our trip prices in January when fuel was a lot less. We don't like to have to do this but we're unable to absorb all the added fuel costs. We have attempted to set a fuel surcharge that will affect everyone equally.
The following per person fuel surcharges are in effect:
Open Party Trips
$15 - 1 Day Trips
$20 - 1.5 Day Trips
$25 - 2 Day Trips
Charter Trips
$300 - 1 Day Charters
$375 - 1.5 Day Charters
$450 - 2 Day Charters
$450 - 2.5 Day Charters
If fuel prices increase or decrease we will adjust the fuel surcharge accordingly.
We appreciate your understanding this need.

A new year is under way and we're on our winter schedule. We're running some local fishing trips out of Channel Islands Harbor, doing some whale watching, and also some marine floating labs with school groups.
You'd think the winter would be a time to cruise but there's always something to do. Right now our other boat, the Ranger 85 has been hauled out of the water and we're doing the annual maintenance on it. When we finish with the Ranger we'll do the annual work on the Coral Sea. Even though we spent a lot of time and money on the boat last year we still have maintenance to do each year. It's not one of the chores we like to do, we're in it for the fishing, but it has to be done.
Speaking of fishing....
We will be posting our Multi-Day Ultra Limited Load Trips soon. These are our 2 day trips that we limit the number of anglers to give you plenty of deck space on top and room below to stow your stuff. They are a great fishing experience for a small group.

Multi-Day Open Party Trip Cancellation Policy:
We require a 50% cash deposit for each reservation in your name for our open party trips or a credit card number that we will run a 50% authorization on per reservation. Effective today we are changing our current cancellation policy of 48 hours to a policy of 7 days notification. If you cancel with less than 7 days and we are unable to sell your reservation(s) to another angler(s) we reserve the right to keep the 50% deposit per reservation or change the 50% authorization on your credit card to a 50% charge per reservation to your credit card.
This change in policy has become necessary because we were getting cancellations on short notice and then we were unable to fill those open spots within the 48 hours. We had trips in the past that were full so we would turn away business and then we would have cancellations on the same trip with 48 hours to sell the open spots and our boat would not go out full.
We still have one of the most lenient cancellation policies. If you check with some of the other boats at different Landings they have a zero cancellation policy: when you sign up you pay for the trip and if you have to cancel too bad, even if they sell your spot to someone else.
Just give us 7 days notice.

We've come to the end of our season out of San Diego. We'll be heading back to Oxnard and Channel Islands Sportfishing Center in the next few days. While the season was going on it seemed like a long grind but now that it's over it seems like it flew by.
We had some very good fishing trips and some not so good ones. I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching. We hope you always had the feeling we were working hard to put fish on the boat though. It's a lot more fun for us too when the fishing is good.
When the Albacore blew through and were gone in June it looked like it could've shaped up as a tough season. However, the Yellowtail came through and we had a banner year for Dorados. It's been a long time since we've had this good of fishing for both those fish. In fact, this year could end up being one of the best in the last 20 years for Dorado.
There is still good fishing for the Yellowtails and Dodos and the Ranger 85 still has several 1.5 day open party trips available. If you want to get in some good autumn fishing jump on one of these trips and have some sportfishing fun.
We want to thank everyone that fished with us out of San Diego this summer. We enjoyed fishing with you. Let's back together next year for some more fun on the water.
From the Captain and Crew of the Coral Sea we wish you
"Tight Lines and Calm Seas."
