Dorado, Yellowtail, and Yellowfin Tuna continue to be caught on overnight trips as well as the multi-day trips. This is definitely going to be a banner year for Dorado. So far the fleet has caught over 17,000 of them. That’s the fourth highest count in the last 20 years and we still have the rest of September and all of October to go. The highest total was 24,263 back in 1992. I don’t know if we’ll be able to catch that record but there’s a good chance we can move up to the second or third spot if fishing remains good. Remember, September and October are traditionally the months for the Dorado along with Yellowfin.

Of course this has been anything but a traditional year. The Albacore barely breezed by early this summer and we’ve been catching the Dorado and Yellowtail pretty much all season long. We’re still getting a mixture in size for both these fish. Some smaller fish have been mixed in with a lot in the 15 - 18 pound range and a decent amount at 20 and above. We’ve been logging a lot of miles for these fish. The normal trip is setting out the trolling rods and scanning the horizon for kelp paddies. Once there’s a hookup the bait goes in the water and we pick up as many as we can. Sometimes you get lucky and find a paddy with a lot of fish and other times you only pick up a few.

The Yellowfin are starting to show in better numbers now. These guys are the initial ones to show and most are in the 12 pound range. Expectations would be as autumn progresses the schools of fish would get larger in size as they continue their migration. Again, that’s what would normally happen. Sometimes you can get really lucky like the Ranger 85 did last week on an overnight trip. It was just about time to wind in the trolling rods when something lit up the scope. It didn’t take long and it was havoc on the deck. The boat sat on that school for a couple hours and got limits for 36 anglers. That's 180 Yellowfin in two hours. Then we had to haul buns back to the dock to be ready for the next trip.

The weather remains good out on the fishing grounds and the seas have been good to us. There have been a lot of concerns from fisherman about the hurricanes that have gone through the tip of Baja but they haven’t really affected our fishing because then they headed for the mainland. If anything it was a little bumpy out there but not a big deal.

We still have charter dates available to take in some fall fishing and we have spots available on our 2 day open party trip leaving October 11th. The Ranger 85 also has several 1.5 day trips coming up. Join us for some good times out on the water.

Give us a call at 619-997-9993 to make your reservations.

CALM SEAS and GOOD FISHING.
We came in last night from an overnight trip with a nice catch of Dorado. The Ranger 85, our other boat, came in from a 1.5 day trip this morning with LIMITS of Dorado, 12 Yellowtail, 6 Yellowfin Tuna, and a Bluefin Tuna. Fishing conditions improved almost overnight and the catch has really picked up. The wind died down and the swell subsided to almost flat calm seas. The fish hadn't bit much for several days but they're ready to eat now.

We have some weekdays left for chartering next week if you want to get into some nice weather and nice fishing. Also, the Ranger 85 is running 1.5 day trips departing Sept 1st, 4th ,and 6th with some space still available. Make your reservations by calling 619-997-9993.

We hope to see you for good fishing and good fun.

It looks like the poor weather conditions are finally starting to be behind us. For the past several days it's been fairly bumpy out on the fishing grounds caused by some stiff westerly winds. Although we have been able to pick up some Dorado and Yellowtail these conditions have really shut down the bite. We've been able to locate schools of Dorado and Yellowtail on our overnight trips but the fish just haven't been in the mood to bite. The multi-day trips have also been able to find schools of Yellowfin Tuna but they too have been off the bite. Rougher water does tend to shut the fish down.

But, looking ahead into the weekend and beyond the weather forecast is for much better conditions out on the water. The wind is going to die down and that will flatten out the seas. Since the fish have been off the bite for some time they should be ready to start eating again and that could mean some good sportfishing action. You always have to look ahead for what it's going to be like instead of looking behind to see what it was like.

We still have some good week day charter dates available in September. We also have space available on most of our open party trips. We expect the Dorado and Yellowtail fishing to stay steady with the Yellowfin fishing picking up next month. There is a whole lot of fishing left to do this season and we’d like to show you what a good fishing trip can be.

Make your plans now for a fishing adventure and join us out on the water. We'll be lookin' for you.

Late breaking news: 7PM Wednesday. We just came back in from an overnight trip with LIMITS of DORADO and 2 Yellowtail for 12 anglers. Conditions have improved a lot. Anybody want to go fishin'?

We've had some up and down fishing over the past week and a half or so. We came back in last night with limits of Dorado on an overnight trip but earlier in the week we had very slow fishing on a two day trip. We're still catching Dorado and Yellowtail but the Yellowfin bite has slacked off some. A lot of the fish are still good size but just not a consistent bite. As has been the case for most of the year the multi-day trips are catching more fish than the overnight trips. Part of the problem has been the weather. It got a little bumpy out on the fishing grounds for a few days recently. Nothing real bad but enough to hold the bite down.

Currently there is a hurricane off the southern tip of Baja that is kicking the water up way south of us. It's a little early to tell how that is going to affect our fishing. Right now it looks like the hurricane is traveling in a north westerly direction so that should be taking it away from us. We're sure we'll get some of the swells but we just don't know how much right now.

One thing about weather like this is it can push the fish closer to San Diego. With a couple storms in a row the Yellowfin may be pushed closer to home and within better range of the multi-day and especially the overnight fishing trips.

Although we didn't have much an Albacore season this year the Dorado and Yellowtail fishing has more than made up for it. It continues to be on pace to set an all time record for the number of Dorado caught. We're hoping to see the Yellowtail and Dorado fishing being good right into September and then start picking up some good catches of Yellowfin Tuna on into October.

We still have a lot of good fishing to go. Join us on the Coral Sea or the Ranger 85 for a fun trip of sportfishing.

Alright!! We just came in last night from a great overnight open party trip. We had 17 anglers and they caught Limits of Dorado, 47 Yellowfin Tuna, and 38 Yellowtail. What a trip!

We're doing a quick turn around tonight and we'll be back on the schools this morning for an overnight charter trip. We know where the fish are and if they're still biting we're going to nail them again.

We are into some of the best fishing of the year right now. We have space on our 2 day trip on August 14-16. Guys, you need to get out here and get into the action. If you want to catch quality Yellowtail...if you want to get into Yellowfin action...if you want to boat some beautiful Dorado...now is the time to go. This fishing may last but we know it's here NOW.

Join us for some great fishing. (619) 997-9993

Fishing is Great!!! This has been an outstanding week on the water. We have been catching a lot of Dorado and Yellowtail and now the Yellowfin Tuna are moving within range of the 1 day boats. The Dorado and Yellowtail continue to be good size fish. The Yellowfin have been averaging around 12 pounds and there have been a lot of them.

We came in last night with Bill Owens and his charter group on an overnight trip. Originally Bill chartered our Ranger 85 but couldn't get enough people to sign up. So he called and booked the Coral Sea instead. By the time the charter came around he could only get 9 guys to go fishing. Those 9 guys caught Limits of Dorado, 26 Yellowfin, 18 Yellowtail, 1 Big Eye Tuna, and a heck of a good time. I'll bet a lot of Bill's Buddies are kicking themselves now for backing out on the trip.

If the season progresses as normal with the warm water species the Yellowfin start out around this size and as the days go by they will increase to the 20lb+ size so we should be seeing some excellent Tuna fishing.

Of course, this season is shaping up to be the year of the Dorado. The sportfishing fleet is on a pace for an all time catch for these beauties. If you haven't been out fishing yet now is the time to go for a mixed bag of great fish. Pull in a couple Dorado and you'll never forget the trip.

Our August 12-14 Ultra Limited Load Trip is sold out but we do have openings on the August 14-16 trip. These trips are for those who are willing to pay a little more for a great fishing experience. You'll be fishing with just 11 other guys that will be your Buddies by the end of the trip.

Check out our trips page and pick one of our trips. Get your gear ready. And join us for some fun on the water. We'll be looking for you.

We just came back from a great "Ultra Limited Load" trip. We had LIMITS of Yellowtail and LIMITS of Dorado for nine anglers. What a trip!! We had room for three more anglers on this trip so three people just missed out on a trip of the year. These fish were excellent quality and a blast to catch.

We had a family of three guys come out from Georgia for this trip and what a trip they picked. They caught a bunch of fish and made a lot of memories. We also had a guy from New Mexico join us and he went home happy.

We call these trips Ultra Limited Load because we only take 12 anglers. We are trying to give you an excellent fishing adventure, something you can't get anywhere else. They may cost a little more than the average trip but you get what you pay for and we just had 9 anglers glad they went out with us.

We have several trips coming up this month and next. These trips are gaining popularity so we've added a few trips to our schedule. Make your plans now and come out for an adventure you won't forget.

Here's to kelp paddies and tight lines.

The bite slacked off at the end of last week and it made for some difficult fishing. The 1, 1.5, and 2 day trips all had some tough fishing to end the week and start the weekend. However, by Sunday the fishing really picked up and most of the fleet brought home lots of fish.

We went out Saturday night on a 1.5 day trip fishing on Sunday and got into some really good action. We had 16 anglers and we brought home Limits of Dorado and 63 Yellowtail. A lot of these fish were good size and quality. The Dorado especially were very nice fish. We've herad of some boats catching Dorado up to 40 pounds. Our fish weren't that big but there were some really nice fish.

We have a 2 day trip on July 26th & 27th and again on August 3rd & 4th that are both sold out. With the fishing this good and our trips filling up we've decided to schedule two more of our "Ultra Limited Load" trips. We have back to back trips with the first departing on Saturday July 12th and fishing on Sunday and Monday, the 13th and 14th. The second trip will leave that Monday night, the 14th, and fish on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 15th and 16th. These trips carry just 12 anglers and are all inclusive. We expect these trips to sell out so make your plans early and give us a call at 619-997-9993.

Tight lines.
