We've had some of the best fishing of the year in the past week or so. Yellowtail, Yellowfin, Albacore, Bluefin and Dorado are all being caught. Some of the Yellowtail are in the 20 - 25lb range and the Albacore are upwards of 35lb. Even the Dorado have been good size. For a while most of the fish were beyod the range of the 1 day fleet. We were getting to see just a little of the action. Now, the fish have come in much closer and the 1 day boats are putting up some good numbers. We just returned from a 1 day charter with seven anglers and we caught Limits of Yellowtail, 2 Bluefin, 2 Yellowfin, and 3 Dorado.

Weather conditions have been great and we expect them to stay that way through the weekend. Skies are sunny and it's warm out there. No problems with the seas either, it's nice out there in the open ocean. Now is the time to make your plans and get in on some of this good fishing.

Along with the Ultra Limited Load trips we have coming up we just scheduled another 1.5 day "Limited Load" for this weekend. These trips take 17 anglers and the price is $275. The trip includes permits. Meals and beverages are extra. This trip is selling fast . We sheduled it 2 days ago and we already have 13 reservations. Calls us now at 619-997-9993 if you're interested.

We'll see you on the water.

Fishing is very good. We just returned tonight from a one day charter with 6 Albacore, 1 Dorado and limits of Yellowtail for 15 anglers. We had some great action on some quality fish. All conditions out on the water look very favorable for continued good action for all the species we've been catching.

Looking at some of the fish counts for other boats recently we're starting to see some better numbers of Albacore, especially on the 1.5 and 2 day trips. We're hoping to see some cooler water close enough for the one day trips and maybe we'll be able to get in on some more of that action but we'll "settle" for limits of Yellowtail any time.

Now is definitely the time to plan your trip. We have 3 spaces still open on our Ultra Limited Load trip on July 26-30. We're only taking 12 anglers. These trips are going to provide our anglers a great fishing experience. Give us a call and get in on some of this action.

Hey, we're in San Diego!!

We had our first Tuna trip of the year last weekend and to be honest it wasn't a great time to start the season. Prior to our trip fishing had been good for several different species but when the weekend came the weather changed and just knocked the heck out of the fishing. By the time we were on the water on Monday fishing really sucked. Even tho' we tried hard to put fish on the boat, fishing really sucked. We're going to try and make up some of that lost fishing with the charter group later this year because they were a great bunch of guys and that's how we do business.

We have a 2 day charter leaving tonight and fishing has been good the last few days for multi-day trips. Our sister boat, the Ranger 85, has been slamming some Yellowtail their last two trips and we're eager to get into some of that action. There had been a small mix of Bluefins and a few Albacore but the bite has gone almost totally to the Yellowtail. We'll be glad to get our limits of those.

It's a great time to be on the water. Conditions are good and from speaking to other Captains it looks like the good water could be with us for a while. It's time do a little fishin'. We have a 2 day open party trip on July 12-14. This is one of our "Ultra Limited Load" trips, just 12 anglers. Ticket price is $530 plus $30 fuel surcharge and it's all inclusive, bait, bunk, permits, meals and snacks. Join us for a good time and good fishing. Tight lines all.

We're still fishing around the Channel Islands and having some good trips. Our last day here is this Saturday, June 24. After that we head down to San Diego for the Tuna season. Our first trip from there is June 26 and we're really looking forward to it. We've heard some good reports on the fishing there with Albacore, Bluefin and Yellowtail biting regularly. A lot of these are quality fish and we're eager to catch our share of them.

We've been tooting our own horn about all the off season upgrades for a while now and with good reason. Everyone that has fished with us since we got back in the water have really liked everything we have done. Check us out, we really do have a lot to offer in a midsize charter boat.

We still have some good days available for charter this summer. We also have space on our 2 day ultra limited load open party trips. These trips are limited to just 12 anglers and we think they will be a great fishing experience. Give us a call to book your trip!!!!

Our Boat Work Is Finished!!

It's been a long offseason of boat work but we are finally finished. After putting in more than $125,000 into the Coral Sea we can proudly say that she is now one of the finest mid-size charter boats in the fleet. That's the Channel Islands fleet and the San Diego fleet too. We passed our Coast Guard Inspection with flying colors yesterday and we're ready to go fishin'!

For those of you who have fished with us before you'll notice the difference right away. Those who have never fished with us will look at the Coral Sea and know this is the quality of boat you want when scheduling your charter or open party trip.

All new mahogany rails and a rocket launcher style rod holder system will be the first things you notice. With the new rod system you're going to have a lot more deck space to fish from. There's a new deck and hatches just waiting for the first fish to be brought on board.

There's new paneling in the galley and new carpet throughout the boat. Down below decks you'll have all new bunks for a comfortable nights sleep or to rest in after a day of grinding them in.

Something you probably won't see but is great news: a new Wesmar 395 Side Scan Sonar. This sonar is going to give you the edge out on the fishing grounds and we think it's going to really help put more fish on the boat.

We have a couple charter trips departing from Channel Islands Sportfishing and then we're off to San Diego.

We're excited about "The New Coral Sea" and the start of the Tuna season. Check us out. We have a great boat and our prices are very competive. We're sure you're going to like the improvements and what we have to offer you. Call us at 619-997-9993 to set up your trip, get more information, or to just talk fish.

Fuel Surcharge Notice:

Due to the increase in diesel fuel prices this year it has become necessary to add a fuel surcharge to all of our trips. All of us have been experiencing the pain at the gas pumps and diesel fuel has been rising significantly too. Many of you don’t realize that on a 1 day trip we will burn 300 to 400 gallons of fuel, depending on how much trolling we need to do to locate the fish.

We have attempted to create a surcharge that will affect each of our anglers equally or as close to it as we can. The surcharge for our Charter Trips will be:
  • $300 for 1 and 1.5 day charters
  • $450 for 2 day charters

The surcharges for our Open Party Trips are as follows:
  • 1 day trips - $15/person
  • 1.5 day trips - $20/person
  • 2 day trips - $30/person

These surcharges are valid for diesel prices of $3/gallon. If fuel prices were to increase or decrease we will adjust our fuel surcharges accordingly. We really wish we didn’t have to impose an additional fee to our trips and we hope you understand the position we are in.

We want to give you an update on the continuing boat work that we are doing. The boat looks like an entirely different charter boat and we know all of our past and future clients are really going to like the changes we have made.

The Coral Sea was hauled out of the water on 5-9-06 to begin the next evolution of the retrofit. The props were removed and sent to the shop to be tuned and balanced. The crew is working diligently towards getting the top coat of paint on the hull and cabin. The new mahogany cap rail is complete and we will install new stainless steel stanchions and mahogany hand rails as soon as we get back in the water. We also finished installing new deck hatches this week.

The Wesmar Side Scanning Sonar is due to arrive next Monday and we will begin installing the sea chest for the sound dome. We spent half a day with the fabricator that is building the new bait tank and it looks great. The new tank will increase our capacity by almost 50%.

The summer fishing season is not far off now. It's time to get your gear ready and make your plans for a trip or two. We still have good charter dates available and there is space available on our 2 day open party trips as well as on our open party trips on our other boat, the Ranger 85.

Give us a call at 619-997-9993 to make your reservations.

Small numbers of Tuna continue to be caught. The Producer out of H&M Landing returned from a 1.5 day trip this morning with 1 Bluefin, 4 Albacore, and limits of Yellowtail. The Tuna were up to 20 pounds and the Yellowtail were reported to be up to 12 pounds.

There should be several boats out this weekend looking for more of these early season fish. You can check out the catch from H&M Landing on their fish count page and stay up with the latest action on Sportfishingreport.comand SportfishingAction.Com, two of our open party trip sponsors on the Ranger 85.

If this year shapes up like last year when we also had an early bite June could be a very good month for the Tuna. Our first trip of the year is a 2 day "Ultra Limited Load" that leaves on Wednesday 6/28 and returns Friday 6/30. This is going to be a great trip for just 12 anglers. Make your reservations by calling 619-997-9993.
